Two tracks, split by school year

A student joins the track their grade puts them in. Junior Tech Cadets is visual and project-first; Senior Tech Cadets is typed, tooled and portfolio-first. Both run live, twice a week, in small groups.

Junior Tech Cadets

Grades 5–8, ages 10–14

Visual first, project first. Scratch, games, web basics and a term on using AI without being fooled by it.

What it covers

  • Scratch and block-based game building
  • AI tools: how to use them honestly, and how to catch them being wrong
  • How the web is put together — HTML and CSS
  • Beginner Python: variables, loops, functions, simple graphics
  • Reading a problem, breaking it down, and testing a fix

Senior Tech Cadets

Grades 9–12, ages 14–18

Text-based and portfolio first. Python, React, mobile and AI development, with work that stands up to being looked at.

What it covers

  • Python from fundamentals through files, data structures and APIs
  • AI development: building real software against a model API, with embeddings, retrieval and evaluation
  • Web development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React
  • Mobile apps with React Native, running on the student's own phone
  • Computer science fundamentals aligned to Matric CS and O/A-Level Computer Science
  • Git, GitHub and deploying work to a public URL

Which track, and which course first

Grade decides the track. A grade 8 student stays in Junior Tech Cadets even if they are ahead, because the group and the pacing are built around that age; an ahead-of-year student is given harder versions of the same projects rather than moved up a band.

Within a track, the starting course depends on what a student has already done. For grades 5 to 7 with no experience, Scratch game development. For grades 7 and 8 who have already used Scratch, web development foundations or junior Python. For grade 9 and above with no experience, senior Python.
